Hope everyone had a nice holiday. I did!
This clock sits in my grandparents’ living room. It originally belonged to my great-great grandmother. How did she get it? Well, she wheeled two turkeys into town and traded for it when she was a little girl.
It’s still in working condition.
I sometimes Google Map the town where my grandma grew up. It’s basically out in the middle of nowhere, southwest of Elizabethtown, KY. Oddly enough, I can go down the state highway leading to my granny’s old family cemetery and see it on street view!
When Granny died, she was buried there. My grandma finished up the funeral by pointing out an old headstone to all the cousins and saying, “That’s my cousin! He died real young. Actually, he died right on this road! Chased a ball out in front of a wagon and got ran over. …He was about y’alls age, I think.” And then she wandered away.
Quality family time. Priceless.
